Welcome to the Crack Cart

They say the best inventor is the lazy man. However that's not always true. How about a 47-year-old man that believes in the phrase "work smarter not harder." I had been in the business of asphalt repair and maintenance for about 12 years when I built the "crack cart." When it came to sealing cracks I was always irritated of what was available to perform that task. I was always looking for a better way. I was using a pour pot at the time that required 2 people. One person putting the material down and the other squeezing the material into the crack. I would have small jobs, that didn't pay much, and would have to have 2 people there to do them. I always felt there had to be a better way. I looked all over and couldn't find anything.

I had an idea of what would work for a one man operation and with a big job coming up I went into my shop and slapped together a cart that looked like a dinosaur. It looked like hell, however I didn't care. I wanted to know how it worked. I had a guy helping me that had been in the business for about 20 years. I told him to try it and tell me what he thought. I watched him as he used it and seen him smile. I knew I had something. I went back, made some changes and tried again. It worked great. I felt that I had made something to make crack sealing easier for one person to do. Now don't get me wrong, when crack sealing with hot pour sealer you should have 2 people on site for safety measures. No one should be alone while working with the 400-degree material. We are in a time when it's all about how to do a job at a lower cost, than our competitors, and still provide the best product for our customers.

The Crack Cart is a four – wheeled cart with forward movement that pushes as easy as a grocery cart. It has a v-squeegee, directly below the dispensing hole that contains all the material and puts it in the crack. It has 2 levers to control the functions. One lever controls the amount of material dispensed and the other raises and lowers the squeegee. They both have a lock positions. The plunger lever can be locked in the up position for cleaning and the squeegee lever in the up position for transportation. The plunger and squeegee can both be easily removed for cleaning, when required. The rear wheels are fixed and the front wheels have 360 degree turning capability. The Crack Cart is all metal construction except for the rubber v-squeegee and the tank will hold approximately 4 gallons of material. You can use either hot or cold crack filler in the crack cart as long as the material is flowable.

Dear Leroy, This letter is to acknowledge how satisfied I am with the Crack Cart. I first saw the advertisement in an asphalt paving magazine and thought I would give it a try. I bought one in the spring of 2012 and was so pleased with it that I bought two more later that year.

The Crack Cart makes asphalt crack filling fast and easy. In one evening, with three Crack Carts, my crew can fill approximately 10,000 lineal feet of cracks. The design is simple and therefore easy to use. My crew likes that the cart moves in a forward motion rather than backwards. The two lever controls are easy to manipulate as well. I like that the squeegee is removable to clean or replace as needed.

I have been in the asphalt maintenance business for 25 years. I have experimented with several different crack fillers and methods of applications. All of its hard work but the Crack Cart is by far the easiest way to get the job done. It's a one-man operation and way faster than a container crack bander.
